Inspired by Madame X: Sculpting Timeless Elegance

Inspired by the striking profile of my sitter, I found myself drawn to the same sense of refined elegance and sculptural presence that defines Madame X. Sculpted directly from life, this piece seeks to translate the architectural beauty of the human form—the proud tilt of the head and the graceful, elongated line of the neck—into a work that feels both immediate and timeless.

By contrasting the smooth, lifelike anatomy of the face with the raw, textured fragments of the base, I wanted to capture more than a likeness. I wanted to preserve a moment of quiet, enigmatic stillness. Like Madame X, there is an inherent allure in the way the subject turns away from the viewer, inviting contemplation of an unseen inner world.

This sculpture explores that intersection: where the vulnerability of a fleeting human moment meets the enduring, monumental grace of the sculptural tradition.
